Mixmag Double-spread.

Color
The colors on this double spread are a good representation of the magazine Mixmag, because the color of this background is black so everything that is placed on top of it would stand out more. The color of the important writing is yellow, yellow is a mutual color that attracts the target audience of both boys and girls. The colors on this double spread page are bright and very eye catching, this creates a loud and vibrant atmosphere to the readers, so it gives the impression that this magazine is mostly suited for a target audience that like loud/dance music type.

Design
The words on this page are describing the event where this picture was taken, so the text and image do link together. The main text on this page is "Break Core", this is written in larger bold text, also the two colors of white and yellow, contrast so it makes the two pieces of text stand out more from each other. This shows that this piece of information is an important part, and it is what the whole article is about, also the positing of it at the top of the page is where the readers would instantly look.

Images
The main image on this double page spread is obviously about the festival/party "Break Core". The image contains normal people who attended this party/festival, the people in this image are late teenage, between the age of 18/20 years old. This represents to an audience of them ages, because it's something that the audience could think about attending, as from the image it looks like fun. Also the people in the image are having fun, and all have their hands in the air, where the music was enjoyable shows us that it was a good night to be at, and the readers may inspire to be like them in the image, wanting to have a good night out. Around the edgers of the photo, there are smaller image of artists and their album artwork, which shows us who was played and featured at this party/festival, this also attracts the audience because if they can find out the music information that was played that night, and may give them more of a reason to attend.

Pose, Style, Hair and Make-up
The pose of the people in the magazine are of them smiling and happy, this shows to the reader that these people were having a good time and make the readers aspire to be like these people in the photo. Also as these people are regular normal people, there hair and make-up is done by themselves, so this has no effect on the readers, but the fact that they are normal people and their in a magazine could have more of an effect on the target audience as they could be in a magazine too if they would want to be.

Words used on the cover
The title of this double spread is positioned at the top of this page, so it makes it more noticeable to the readers, having this at the top makes it more noticeable and shows the audience what this article about. The readers would be attracted to this if they knew about this festival/party, unless they had a knowledge on this specific type of music genre then it would not be very informative to the readers. If you saw this double page spread from a far you would know what this page was about or have a rough idea, because of the large text saying "Break Core" and the large image of people at this place, having this sort of layout is a benefit to the readers/buyers because it shows the most important parts, IE: The image and Title, which gives the readers a rough idea of what it would be about.
Overall impression
By looking at this double page spread quickly would give you an indication of what would be the main feature of this double page spread. This double page spread would be designed to appeal for those that like bright colors and vibrant music, generally loud people. This could be because of the bright colors on the front page and the main image is off people at a big party and because of the fact that they are standing close together and there dance moves shows their genre of their music. The readers that would be addressed would be people that do not like this type of music and like the opposite such as classical music.

Mixmag Contents.

Color
Mixmag never has a set theme of colors, it is always different loud/vibrant colors, this suits the magazine because of the target audience of Mixmag like loud and happy music, there is a mixture on this contents of different colors, but, the colors are still bright and there isn't a specific theme of colors like other magazines have; for example Q normally have red, white and black. There is a plain white background but only short part of that is shown for the information part, this is so it's not so confusing and distracting for the readers on the information part. The color of the text is black and the headings are bright pink, pink normally attracts girls, but also it's a bright color which is suits the magazine. The images on this contents page are different colors which makes them all stand out and equally amount from each other.

Design

The images and text do not fit together, because on the left hand side where the information is for what is featured inside the magazine. But the images have there own information and page number underneath it so you know where to find it, this is designed to help the audience find the page. There is no catchy sayings or slogans on this page for the images to go with that. The font and text that is used is simple, because there is a lot of information, but the page numbers is made bigger so it stands out more and the title is in bold, this is more eye catching for the audience, once again this is too the audience benefit because they then know the important information and can quickly get to that page to read that article.

Images

The images on this contents appeal to different audiences. The main image is of an attractive female, who is posed in a sexy way and is wearing little clothing, this is appealing to a male target audience as she is attractive and is not wearing much, also is can target the female audience as they would aspire to be like them. This two images below are other artists, the smaller image on the left is made smaller because of the colors off it makes it more noticeable. These three different images represent three different types of genres of music that will represent three different types of audiences that will be attracted to buy this magazine.

Pose, style, hair and makeup
The main image is of the girl posing. She is wearing little clothing so it appeals more to a male audience by doing this, but her style of makeup, looks like she is wearing little of it which this is what a female audience would aspire to be like her. Her hair looks natural and messy so this is also and appeal to a female audience, the rough look of her hair would appeal to the male audience as it is seen as a to be a sexy feature.

Words used on cover
The words on this cover have been kept simple, the title is in a small box on the left above the information. The title is in a small box above all the writing, it's kept small because the readers will know that this is a contents page and what it is for. On the information part, the contents is broke up into sub-sections, for example it says "Tunes" this informs the readers that under this title is were they will find recent or good songs out now, this will suit the readers interest because they can pick what they want to read. The information is clear to the readers of what will be inside the magazine, it also gives a small summary of what the features will be about like a tease so the audience will want to read it more. From a glance you would be able to see that this page is a contents page, you wont be able to see what will be featured in the magazine from far away because the text is too small, but front he style of the lay out you would be able to tell its a magazine. This magazine would stand out on a shelf as it's got large images, and some of text is bright pink.

Overall impression
This contents page does give a indication of what will be featured in the magazine, but only if you look at the information on the left side. It dose not have any bold words or big lettering on this page that would indicate what would be inside. This page attracts different audiences because of the images used, the main big image of the girl attracts male and female attention, also the two images below attract the readers because it targets the audience as i is the genre of music that they like. It wouldn't attract a younger age audience, and also it wouldn't attract people that are into heavy rock and mental. Also it wouldn't attract and older age range because it is more younger appeal.

Mixmag Front Cover.

Color
The background color on this magazine is plain grey, this is because what is wrote or placed over the top of this background will stand out more. The color of the text is mostly blue or white, this is because the color of the clothing worn by the musicians is very colorful and bright, and none of them are wearing electric blue or big items of clothing that are white. The mood we get from this is quite a happy mood, because of the bright colors it creates and exciting mood for the readers. For the first page a good impression should be set, and this cover gives a good impression as it stands out with the bright colors and the colors of the clothing is also very eye catching to the readers.

Design
There is only one main image, and that is the image of the musicians. The image and the Remove formatting from selectiontitle/slogan fits well, as the slogan says "meet the young things, that run the tings!", the image is off all the new up and coming stars of the music industry and the word "tings" is slang that younger people say now days, this is play on words and can attract a younger target audience. The font of the words "new school" is different and stands out to more to the readers because of the shadow effect and the font style. Next to every different musician there is small writing that tells the reader who they are (the an
me of their band).

Images

The main image on this page is off the younger musicians. By having this image it can attract a younger target audience to read this magazine because the people in the image are of a younger new generation. The musicians that are featured in this front cover is, Friendly Fires, Little Boots, The Martinez Brothers, Skream, Surkin and Goldielocks. Having these musicians on the front cover would attract a wider range of target readers because they all have a different genres of music, for example Friendly Fires style of music is an indie/rock music but then Skream is a dubstep style of music and then Little Boots is a pop/electro style of music. By having these musicians on the front cover it's representing different genres of music, which shows Mixmag has a wide range of music inside their magazine and then this would attract more readers to buy the magazine.

Pose, style, hair and make-up

The musicians in this magazine are all nicely dressed and their hair and make-up is done nicely, none of them has gone for a different 'natural' look. This gives the reader a good impression as they look at these people and see that they look nice and spire to be like them with their styles and different look. Also it could be that because they are the "New School" that they are making a good first impression on the readers of Mixmag. The musicians are all doing slightly different poses, this makes them look more individual to the readers.

Words used on the cover

The title and strap lines are very catchy and suit the image in the background, also the play on words by using "tings" would attract younger readers because it's slang that they would understand. At the top right it says "free warehouse cd" and the the word free is put in bold which makes this stand out more and obvious to the readers, it will also make the readers want the magazine more, other important words like this are highlighted more to make them stand out. It gives a good indication of what would be inside of the magazine because of the list of the bands/musicians on the right hand side, and also on the left it tells us bigger articles that will be featured inside. You would not be able to see these list from a quick glance or from them being on the shelf but the words "New School" would be the first thing you notice, and also the title of the magazine, the title of the magazine is slightly hid but people will know that this is a Mixmag magazine because of the color schemes and loud colors.

Overall impression

This front cover gives dose give a good indication of what is featured inside if you read closely to the two lists either side at the bottom, but the reader would have to pick it up and pay attention to it. This front cover appeals to many different audiences, but obviously it targets it's usually audience's that like dance music, it then appeals to teenagers because of the musicians being younger and something that teenagers will know about and listen to more lately. Also the different musicians represent the different genres of music, and that would attract the reader because it's focused on a band/genre they like. This font cover would not appeal to a smaller audience than other magazines because of the wide rang of musicians on the front cover, it wouldn't appeal to an older generation who would like "Old School Dance" music, because of the younger crowd on the front. Also it would not appeal to readers that like heavy rock/metal music because this magazine dose not focus on that genre of music.

NME Double Spread.

Color
On this double spread the main color is blue. Blue is normally associated with boys so the target audience of the color would be boys. The colors the boy band is dressed in is very plain like black white and navy, this makes them stand out from the white and red patterned bed behind the band. The black column on the right also stands out, and the information is about different bands that are also popular at the moment, so it makes it more important and more visible to the audience reading this magazine. There is small red box at the bottom of the page, the red stands out more because most of the color on this pages is white, black and blue. It's red because it's about the magazine NME, which makes it stands out more to readers as its a main focus.

Design
The main image is the picture of the band which takes up the left half of the double-spread, this is typical of most double spread pages in other magazines. By doing this it shows that this band is important and that the main focus of this double spread is about them. There is a 'need to know' box, which is about the band The Teenagers the box is placed over the picture of the band so we know that it is about them. All of the images have captions or speech beside them so the readers know its about them. The fonts are the same for the whole double-spread, except for the titles of the band which are a different font and are larger, this makes it stands out more to the audience and makes the readers focus more on the information.

Images
There and four images on this double spread of different bands. The three different bands images are to the right of the page, the main image of the band The Teenagers, is covering half of the double spread this is because the article on this double-spread page is about this band. The main image is the boy band The Teenagers, this image can target a wider target audience because of their genre of music, also because their a boy band it could attract a teenage girl audience who like the 'boy band' image. The other images on the right hand side are small but have a lot of information beside them, so the image doesn't have to be as focused on.

Pose, style, hair and make-up
The pose of the main image of the band The Teenagers, is a normal pose, they are acting casually looking at the camera. There hair and makeup is rough looking besides the boy on the left, his hair looks slicked, this could be because he might be the one that gets more attention. The other images of the other bands, they are doing a pose that all suits there band, like for example The Rascals (bottom right corner), they are standing their giggling and laughing, and look a bit cheeky, this suits their name "Rascals".

Words used on cover
The main words that catch your eye on this page is the name of the band The Teenagers, this is because of the size of the writing and also its highlighted in blue, the positioning of that text as well is written in the middle of the page which makes it more noticeable. Also all the important words are highlighted in blue which makes it more noticeable to the readers as well. From far away and a quick glance you would be able to see the text because of the words being highlighted in blue. Some bits of the text are made slightly larger because there the important bits, for example the title of the band 'The Teenagers'. If you saw this double spread on a shelf i think it would stand out because of the colors used, also there is more images than text which makes the reader more interested.

Overall impression
This double spread is good, because it gives us a clear indication of what it is about, because of the big highlighted words 'The Teenagers' also the big image of the band makes it more eye catching. This double spread can appeal to both male and female, but the age of the audience for this double spread is most likely teenagers. It can appeal to both types of these audience because of the color schemes it would attract boys attention by using colors like blue. But because the band is three boys, it could attract the female audience who could have that 'crush' appeal to the band, where they think the members of the band is good looking. Readers that don't like this band would be addressed because it would have no interest for them, or readers that don't like indie/rock genre of music, for example someone who likes heavy rock would not be interested or someone who would prefer to listen to R&B or hip-hop music.

NME Contents Page.

Colour
The colour scheme from the front cover stays the same as we can see on the contents page. The colors splits the contents into sections, red to the right which is the "Band Index", and back to the left, which is what is featured in the magazine.By doing this it allows the readers to find what they are looking for easily. The white background is successful because then there is not so much color on the page and stops the reader from getting distracted easily and lets them focus on the information more.

Design
NME has a ‘Band Index’ on the contents page, this is for the readers and for one off buyers that were attracted to the bands listed on the front cover, it makes it easier for the buyers if their just focused on the one bad that might be involved/mentioned in this magazine. There is also arrows next to some features which inform to the readers that these are most likely a main story and big topic and also most likely appeared on the front cover. There is only one image on this page which is related to the text and it also mentions a brief description about it, which is like a 'tease' to the readers.

Images
There is only one main image on this contents page and that is the big picture of Astoria. By having this big picture it shows it's importance and that it’s one of the main features of the magazine, also the picture is centred in the middle of the page this also adds to how important the picture is. This image doesn't really capture the target audience, the text below the image suggests it's been a top spot for gigs and it's 'one of the world greatest music arenas' this could attract any kind of audience as it's not an image of people or a person, so the only reason that the audience would be interested in is to probley see who has played at this arena. There is a smaller image at the bottom of two NME magazine, as its an advertisement for NME

Pose, style, hair and make-up
There is no people on this front cover.

Words used on the cover
As it's a contents there is a lot of writing which tells us what is included in the magazine. The title is in the black strap line at the top of the picture, which stands out more because it is on the black background. This contents also has the 'Band Index' which tells what bands are mentioned on the inside, this attract a wide range of audiences as their is many bands listed this attracts the main interest for the audiences. You could tell from a glance that this would be a contents because of the amount of information on it, and it is bullet pointed. The font size on this front cover would not be able to be seen from a distance, but the main header, which is the name of the magazine, would be seen from far away, also the text underneath the main picture would be easily spotted. If this contents was to be glimpsed at, it would not be the first to catch the readers eye because of the picture of the building, i think if this contents was to have a picture of a band or a musician on it instead of the building it would be more eye catching, but it could be quite clever, because it could also attract the audience if they wonder why their is a picture of a building on this contents page.

Overall impression
This contents page does give an indication of what will be featured inside the magazine. The "Band Index" is a good idea, because it appeals to a wider range of target audience as it mentions a lot of different bans, this can make the readers more interested to reading the magazine or what is mentioned of one of their favourite bands. I think that this type of magazine would not attract the R&B and Rap genres of music as the bands that are mentioned are very rock and indie genres of music. It would also not attract younger audiences as what is mentioned is mostly related to older ages and about bands that younger people would not listen to.

NME Front Cover.

Color
The colors on this front page are very simple and normal colors, they use red, black and white/grey. The red and black are used to separate the different band name in the background. The mood it sets is a slight vibrant mood because of the big red colors but also it's chilled because the colors are simple and not very bright and in your face. The impression that this magazine would give would be that their are important bits in this magazine as there is a lot of red, and red is normally used to point out something, which could be important.

Design
The images and words fit together as the smaller images are in like an box, and the writing is wrote underneath it. The main image of the artist Jamie T is has it's writing over the top of the image of him. It also tells you what the article on Jamie T will include on the inside of the magazine. The fonts that are used to list the bands are all wrote in capitals so it stands out more to the audience, also they are wrote in bright red so this also catches the reader eye more.

Images
The three images on this magazine all stand out, but the main one would be of Jamie T. The image is from a slight higher angle so as a reader you would be looking down at him. The two pictures in the two backgrounds, of Paramore (Top left) and Liam (Bottom left) both attract different target audiences, Liam would attract a teenage boy audience, and Paramore would attract teenage boys and girls. The images are just normal medium close ups of the artists and bands, so there is nothing to aspire them for, because they are not doing anything, and the readers can not see the whole of their outfits.

Pose, style, hair and make-up
The main image of Jamie T is looking at us, (the reader) and is half smiling, and because he is looking up at us it makes the readers feel more important, Jamie T hair and makeup is not done and just left normal as that's what most people like about him for his "don't care' attitude. Liam (Bottom left) has a medium close up of him and he looks like he is looking up at Jamie T who is in the main bit of the magazine front page, Liam hair and make up is done normal so he looks causal. Paramore (Top left) is posing in her weird way, as that shows her normal representation of herself being different and strange. Her make up is done very nice and natural also, her hair is dyed a bright color which also shows off her personality.

Words used on cover
The main name of the magazine is hid behind Jamie T's head, this is because the magazines core audiences know that it's NME magazine because it is a popular magazine. The words that are used under the names of the bands and the picture gives a brief description of what is going to be inside the magazine, so instantly the readers get interested and then want to know more, so therefor they by the magazine. Also the words used across Jamie T's picture is "Borken Britian" as an English audience this would attract people more because it's something to do with the public instead of just about the musicians, it is more specific and targeted to the audience.
Overall impression
This front cover was good because it gave you a clear indication to what would be inside the magazine by the pictures and short description below, this is a lot more compare to over front covers of different magazines. This front cover appeals to a lot of different readers because they mention a lot of different bands/artists, also different genres of bands/artists, for example mentioning Lil Wayne on the front attracts a Hip-Hop genre as well. As the other indie/rock bands it would attract such as Temper Trap and Paramore. It also appeals to both genders for example having Paramore on the front cover attracts the female target audience because it has a female lead vocalist but also because she is attractive it appeals to male readers. Readers that are more into rap and dance music would not be attracted to type of music because mainly it is not their type of music that they would listen to, also it wouldn't attract younger kids because in Jamie T's section, it mentions drugs and violence, this is not something that would be sold to younger kids.

Q Double Spread.

Color
The color on this page is very plain with a white background. The bands are dressed in gold, black and white which gives the band a very classy/rich look, this attracts a wide type of audience and makes them be more inspired to be like the band members. The whole double spread is in the same style/colors of the band, with the black, white and gold. This is a very simple style and creates a very normal mood, where the colors aren't that vibrant the mood just stays normal and neutral.

Design
This article is an interview with Will.I.Am, a band member of Black Eyed Peas, asking him about going on his own and doing a solo career. So the image is a picture of the whole band but Will.I.Am is standing out more as the other members of the band are faded slightly in the background, so the words and images both fit together, as Will.I.Am is on his own, as well the readers would focus more on Will.I.Am. Also there is a main quote that is highlighted in black, with white font, this clearly stands out more to the readers and therefore telling the readers that this is a more important fact. The lettering and color fit in with the whole theme of the page, which is the classy/rich look.

Image
There is only one image on this double spread and that is the image of the band Black Eyed Peas. The image shows the readers the bands style and class, which gives the reader an inspiration of to be like this band and copy their style. Also the female member of the band (Fergie) is dressed in a sexy way, this will also attract a male attention to this article of the magazine. As well having Fergie dressed like that could also inspire woman to look like that, as she looks good. This band shows a representation of a new look that they are creating at this time, instead of the "rock" look, it's more of a classier and different look.

Pose, style, hair and makeup
The pose of the band is very normal, individually they are doing different things which makes them look different to the readers. There style is very different, especially the member on the band on the far left with his hair style, they also have their different dress sense which gives the impression that they are setting a new style/trend.

Words used on cover
The readers attention is grabbed by the big wording in gold and grey saying "Will he. Won't He?" These words stand out to the reader clearing talking about the band member Will.I.Am. This article is directed at the audience because of the words that are most visible. is a rhetorical question this also would capture the readers attraction more. The readers that are addressed are fans on the band, also people who may not like the band as the article in general talks about one of the band members leaving. With the simple layout of the writing as well it doesn't make it so complicated so someone young could also read this.

Overall impression
This double page spread is very simple and not complicated, which sets and natural mood. The text around the article would not give the reader a clear indication about what the main story is about unless you had a rough idea what this story was about in the first place. Readers that prefer loud and more vibrant music would not be attracted to this as it uses a very simple lay out and simple colors. The readers that would be attracted to this magazine would be classy people, who are more interested in what the article is actually because of how simple it is.
